Voting starts on Monday 28 November and ends at 7pm on election day, Saturday 10 December. If you can’t get to a voting place on election day, you can still vote. Here’s how.
You can vote from Monday 28 November to Friday 9 December at any advance voting place. The days and times advance voting places are open vary, so check before you go.
Information about where and when to vote will be available here soon. It will also be included in your EasyVote pack.
On election day, Saturday 10 December, all voting places will be open from 9am to 7pm.
Can’t get to a voting place?
If you can’t go to a voting place, for example because of illness, age or disability, you can get help to vote.
If you are unable to go to a voting place then complete and sign the form in the Unable to get to a voting place brochure [PDF, 10MB] and ask someone to take it to a voting place. They'll bring you back your voting papers to complete.
If there’s no one who can collect your voting papers on your behalf, we may be able to deliver them to you. Please call us on 0800 36 76 56.
How to return your voting papers
- Ask someone to drop your completed voting papers back to a voting place before 7pm, Saturday 10 December.
- If you have a return courier pack, follow the instructions on the pack to arrange a courier pickup, or call us on 0800 36 76 56 if you need help.
Working on election day?
You’re legally allowed to have time away from work to go and vote on election day. You can also vote early at any voting place from Monday 28 November.
You can still vote if you are in a care home
If you are in a care home, you don’t need to contact us. Your local Electorate Manager will contact the manager of your care home to arrange voting services.
You can still vote if you are in hospital
If you can’t get to a voting place because you are in hospital, from Monday 28 November a friend or family member can bring you your voting papers. If you’re scheduled to go into hospital prior to election day, it’s best to vote in advance if you can, from Monday 28 November. Call us on 0800 36 76 56 for more information.
You can vote from overseas
People who are overseas and enrolled in the Hamilton West general electorate can still vote in the Hamilton West by-election.
